The  Cold War.

In 1949 was created a political division of Europe and Germany by the " Iron  Curtain ". In 1949 the NATO a military alliance confronted the Berlin Blockade.  The Cold War involvement which I was  GS 15 Colonel Roswitha bastion II Pritsch Mac Rory Yates Simmons and my husband Sgt. Micheal bastion II Pritsch Mac Rory Yates Simmons were involved for ten years with the NATO forces to protect West Germany and one year in Desert Storm & Desert Shield War in Kuwait. The Cold War  involvement of the United States was to prevent dictatorship of the Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. The Cold  War ended in 1991 with the Collapse of the Soviet Union.
