The " Trail of Tears " was the forced  removal from the Five Civilized Indian Tribes. Cherokee, Chickasaw Seminole, Choctaw and the Muscogee. The Cherokee were removed in 1838 because of the discovery of gold. Congressman Davy Crockett of Tennessee and President Andrew Jackson opposed the Indian Removal Act of 1830. On the " Trail of Tears " 2000 - 8000 Cherokees perished a long the way.
